Wondering where you can go this Annual Meeting to learn about many of the resources the Academy offers? Look no farther than Academy Row. This exposition area is devoted specifically to AAOS projects and services, including the following initiatives.

Culturally competent care
Patient demographics are changing. The Culturally Competent Care exhibit helps you improve your communication and cultural awareness to meet the diverse needs of your patients.

Pick up your free Culturally Competent Care Package, created by the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board. The package includes a CD-ROM with interactive patient cases and a companion guidebook; together they offer up to 6 CME credits. You’ll also find additional information on healthcare disparities among ethnic and racial minorities.

If you’re interested in contributing to AAOS outreach efforts, you can volunteer here for programs that mentor medical students and recruit them to learn more about orthopaedics. You can also learn more about the AAOS Diversity Award program. For additional information, visit

Patient safety
“Sign Your Site” is a key AAOS safety initiative, and staff at the Patient Safety Program booth will discuss this and other efforts to improve patient safety. Stop by to learn about the free resources and tools available to keep your patients safe.

The free Patient Safety starter kit can help you become a leader in patient safety issues in your institution. You can “sign your site” on a mannequin “patient” and pick up free indelible markers to assist your colleagues in efforts to eliminate wrong-site surgery. For more information, visit

Online education
Make your next stop the Orthopaedic Knowledge Online (OKO) and Your Orthopaedic Connection (YOC) booth. Explore these online physician and patient education Web sites and the free tools and resources available to Academy members.
