What is the AAOS PROMs Vendor Program?
The AAOS PROMs Vendor Program is a tailored component within the AAOS PROMs in Practice initiative. It is designed to offer a rich library of technology vendors and solutions to orthopaedic surgeons and their care teams, supporting them with the collection and analysis of patient outcomes data. Program participants are identified and selected on an annual basis.

What criteria did the AAOS PROMs workgroup use to evaluate each of the featured companies?
AAOS PROMs Vendor Program participants are selected based on a series of criteria assessing their ability to collect and submit patient-reported outcomes data; their track record of submitting data to the AAOS Registries; among other information. Only those technology vendors that meet the outlined criteria for the AAOS PROMs Vendor Program are considered for inclusion. For more information about the AAOS PROMs workgroup selection and scoring process, email proms@aaos.org

My practice has identified a vendor(s) that could be a fit for our needs. Now what? Will AAOS help in some way?
Evaluating how well your practice incorporates patient-reported outcomes and utilizes the data to enhance patient care is the first step towards implementing patient-reporting outcomes in clinical practice.

The AAOS encourages you to reach out to vendors directly to learn more about how they can help with PROMs collection and submission.

If you have trouble connecting to the vendor(s), email proms@aaos.org.

Can the AAOS PROMs Vendor Program help AAOS Registry Program participants with data submission?
If you are an AAOS Registry Program participant seeking more information about how a third-party vendor can help submit data on your behalf, contact an engagement associate at registryengagement@aaos.org or call 847-292-0530. An engagement associate can offer insight about the Registry Program Authorized Vendors

If your practice is not a participating Registry Program site, the AAOS PROMs Vendor Program is a good starting point to ensure compliance for PROMs collection and utilization.

The PROMs vendor my practice uses to collect data isn’t listed in the AAOS PROMs in Practice Vendor Program. Does that mean they aren’t credible or endorsed by the AAOS?
No. When it comes to patient reported outcomes data capture and implementation, the AAOS understands that orthopaedic practices or academic institutions have varying levels of needs and resources. The AAOS PROMs Vendor Program is designed to offer a rich library of vendors and solutions that can support those needs. Participants are selected based on a series of criteria established by the AAOS PROMs volunteer workgroup. The program does not include all patient reported outcomes data vendors in the marketplace.

AAOS does not, directly or indirectly, endorse PROMs Vendor Program companies or any products or services offered by PROMs Vendor Program featured companies. The library of vendors is intended to serve as a guide for AAOS members and their orthopaedic care teams who implement and utilize PROMs at the point of care.

As with other AAOS vendor programs, AAOS encourages and advises its members to be sure that any third-party vendor meets their institution’s legal, compliance or evaluation criteria as to third-party providers.

Does using one of the AAOS PROMs in Practice Vendors grant my practice any benefits? Will I get automatic access to the AAOS Registry Program?
No. The AAOS PROMs Vendor Program is intended to guide AAOS members and their orthopaedic care teams with the collection and utilization of PROMs at the point of care.

Hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), and private practice groups of any size can participate in the AAOS Registry Program. Surgeons can access their data if their site is participating. To get started, contact an AAOS Registry Engagement Associate at RegistryEngagement@aaos.org or (847) 292-0530. They will be able to demonstrate the AAOS RegistryInsights platform for your site via webinar.

How is the AAOS PROMs Vendor Program different from the AAOS Registry Program Authorized Vendor Program?
The AAOS Registry Program has agreements with dozens of electronic health record (EHR) and technology vendors to assist with the data submission process. These agreements entail extracting site data or sending data on behalf of sites. Registry Program staff holds routine meetings with Authorized Vendors to keep them current with data specifications updates. Each vendor must go through an initial validation of Registry specifications. Read more here
