How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
AAOS has helped me immensely with my patient care, surgical skills, and orthopedic knowledge throughout medical school and residency. The vast network of AAOS members has helped me connect with mentors who provide meaningful direction to my career. The academic adjuncts, including the ROCK curriculum, Orthopaedic Video Theatre, and JAAOS have helped me to solidify certain concepts and skills. I look forward to attending and presenting at future AAOS meetings to take advantage of the educational and networking opportunities. Overall, AAOS has augmented my learning and performance in all aspects of my practice of orthopedics. I look forward to the continued use of AAOS resources throughout my career.

As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
Thus far in my residency, I have used the ROCK curriculum and question bank for concept review and OITE preparation. The relevant discussion and intuitive layout have been instrumental in teaching and reinforcing essential orthopedic concepts. I also use the Orthopedic Video Theatre for OR preparation. As a junior resident, it is sometimes difficult to visualize certain approaches or techniques. The Orthopedic Video Theatre has helped me to learn the approaches and appreciate more nuanced procedures for the treatment of various orthopedic pathologies.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
A medical school mentor and I once discussed the challenges of applying to a competitive specialty. At the end of the discussion, he told me “Someone is going to do it, why not you?" This phrase has stuck with me as a powerful mantra when I may feel discouraged or overwhelmed. "Why not me?"  has helped me to capture opportunities and challenge my perceived limitations.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
When I am having a hard time focusing, I use the Pomodoro method to clearly differentiate work time from break time. It is especially helpful when facing a large task that seems difficult to start.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Drinking water! On long OR days and during busy clinics I often find myself skipping water breaks. Drinking water throughout the day has helped me to feel much more hydrated and energetic.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Pottery, hiking, walking my dog, traveling, running.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I used to work at a candle store, and am still quite a candle connoisseur.
