How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
The AAOS has been helpful in multiple aspects of residency so far from networking and advocacy to education and research. I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend Advocacy Day and hill visits at the NOLC/Fall Meeting as well as the Annual Meeting. Through these, I have been able to network with and learn from peers and leaders in the field. Through my involvement in these meetings, particularly the Capitol Hill visits, I have found and fostered a passion for healthcare policy and advocacy that I hope to continue to pursue throughout my career. I have also utilized JAAOS both for my own learning and as a resource to publish research and spread the word about my home program’s Acting-Intern Bootcamp curriculum.

As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
Over the last year, my co-residents and I have utilized Res-Study questions, and now the ROCK program, to study for the OITE and boards. We make it a point to get together weekly at one of our houses, have some beers, and talk through at least 25 questions together. Also, as I prepare to apply for a pediatric fellowship this upcoming year, I have utilized the fellowship directory to familiarize myself with programs before interviews.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
One of the most memorable pieces of clinical advice I’ve ever gotten was from one of my senior residents when I was an intern. He told me that the harder choice is usually the right one. I take this to mean that in medicine there is not typically an easy way out and the best thing for the patient often involves putting in more time and work.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Red Bull and musical soundtracks!

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I’ve been trying to drink more water since high school so maybe this year is the year.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Baseball (go Dodgers!), Hockey (go Golden Knights!), snowboarding, traveling, crafting, baking, spending time with my cats.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I’ve seen and read every movie, show, and book. Chances are if you meet me I’m wearing some kind of Star Wars pin, sticker, or button somewhere.
