Orthopaedic Surgery Resident, PGY4
UT Southwestern/Parkland

How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
The AAOS is the main resource for studying orthopaedic concepts, research, and connecting with other orthopaedic surgery residents and faculty. The yellow journal is my main source of review articles to obtain the basic fundamental knowledge in various orthopaedic subspecialties. Being able to attend the AAOS meeting to connect with other surgeons is also an invaluable experience.

As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I review questions and concepts through the AAOS ResStudy on a regular basis to keep my knowledge up to date and prepare for board examinations.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
A faculty mentor gave me advice that I will never regret being overprepared. Knowing the possibilities builds confidence and the ability to recognize new problems. They told me that to the beginner, novelty is something that has not been seen before but to an expert, novelty is in nuance.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
There are often several tasks that need to be completed at a time. Learning to prioritize tasks almost the same way I would triage consults in the emergency room has helped me meet deadlines and stay focused. Making a list and ordering them in order of importance helps me feel productive and that I am making progress.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I am trying to make a habit of getting on my exercise bike every day. It helps me unwind and gives me time to listen to podcasts while doing something healthy. Hopefully it sticks.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Golf, climbing, tennis, traveling

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I am getting married in Seoul, South Korea this year.
