How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
The AAOS has allowed me to expand my network and has provided me with invaluable access to resources including online courses and study materials.
As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I use ResStudy daily. I have found that taking practice questions regularly not only helps prepare me for my board exams but increases my knowledge to help me in the operating room as well.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
My mentor, Dr. Drew Sanders, gave me the advice that I shouldn't ever be afraid to ask for input and help. I think it's important to be able to recognize that we're continually in the process of learning, and that thinking of different ways to approach a problem can be very valuable.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Consistency is key. I find that waking up earlier to consistently carve out time for study and research is the best way to maintain productivity.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I have tried to take an hour for myself each day to make time for myself, whether that be spending time with friends, family, going to the gym, or just relaxing. I think it helps me focus during the times that I am working.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I love to hike, paint, and run with my golden retriever, Abel.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I'm currently spending three months operating in New Zealand as part of the UT Southwestern residency program.
