How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
The AAOS has helped me network with my peers and mentors, provided me with educational resources to succeed in residency, and distributed information about various educational opportunities for residents.
As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
The ResStudy question bank is my most frequently used AAOS resource! It's beneficial not only for OITE studying, but also for the day-to-day preparation required for the various rotations. I have also found the JAAOS Yellow Journal articles instrumental throughout residency as they summarize common orthopaedic problems and provide an accessible framework for building a foundational knowledge base.
What’s the best advice you were ever given?
It's ok to set boundaries- you don't have to say yes to every single opportunity that comes your way. Especially if saying yes to a new opportunity means your performance level will decrease for the things you've already committed to.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
If there's one thing I'm good at, it's productive procrastination (i.e., completing other, non-time-sensitive items on my to-do list when I should be working). I fight this by going to the library or a local coffee shop to remove myself from my apartment so there won't be any other distractions, allowing me to get work done!
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit
One of my goals is to be more intentional about regularly making time for non-work-related activities like exercise, reading for leisure before bed, spending time with friends, etc.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time.
I enjoy exercising and spending time outdoors, cooking/baking, and traveling.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I am a first-generation American and my family is from Jamaica. Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, I have learned all of my mom's "top secret" traditional recipes so that I can pass them along to my family someday.
