How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
AAOS has provided excellent peer-reviewed literature on the entire breadth and depth of the Orthopaedic syllabus. It hosts the largest, and most comprehensive orthopaedic conference in the western hemisphere which provides networking opportunities, updates on the latest in orthopaedic care and an environment to showcase work done by its members. I have been able since residency to capitalise on all its available resources for study, keeping up to date and now preparing research and lectures.
As an International Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
The JAAOS and OKU as provide a quick review on current topics and are readily accessible to me as a member.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
“Pain from shoulder pathology rarely radiates below the elbow”, if it seems to do so, look for another source of the pain. This advice has saved me from unnecessary shoulder surgery on a number of occasions.
This was told to me by Professor Darryl Ogilvie-Harris, my supervisor during my fellowship in Canada.
