How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
AAOS allows me to learn about the latest research on topics that interest me the most, and I have incorporated some details of the techniques that I've seen in AAOS Orthopaedic Video Theater videos to my surgical practice. Also, when I am able to attend the Annual Meeting, it is very pleasant to meet colleagues and friends from other countries.

As an International Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I use the AAOS Journal the most, because as working in a reference hospital, we received complex or some rare cases that require meticulous planning for treatment and review publications related to the case. Additionally, my hospital is a teaching center with residents in charge, and the AAOS journal is one of the publications that are referred to in the lectures.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
When I was ending medical school, I told one of my professors (he was an orthopaedic surgeon) that if I were a man, I would choose to be an orthopedic surgeon. He smiled and said: "Don't be afraid, because a good surgical technique is more important than being physically strong", and that affirmation supported my decision to become an orthopedic surgeon.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I make a list of things that are pending and I rank them by priority each day, and try to avoid distractions while I do each one. I don't always complete everything, but at least I complete the most important ones before going to sleep.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I am working towards ensuring that I sleep for at least 6 hours every night. I am trying to make resting well a priority in my life.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Cultivating plants with exotic flowers appeals to me so much. I have a collection of more than 20 orchids at home. Likewise, I enjoy attending concerts and dancing shows.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I started taking ballet classes after turning 50 for the first time in my life. Now I continue to practice and strongly believe that it is the best physical exercise for maintaining joint flexibility, muscle tone, body balance, improving body posture and even training memory.
