Why did you join AAOS?
I joined the AAOS to be closer to the international community of trauma and orthopaedic surgeons around the world. First, to learn from other fellow residents and share knowledge from my country with others. Secondly, to access all the information available by AAOS to increase my knowledge in all areas so that I may become a well-rounded Resident and future Surgeon.
How do you define success?
Success is subjective. Success for me is not the same as success for my fellow resident, even in the same hospital. For me personally, success is a feeling invoked by a patients follow-up. When I see a patient that has had an improvement in his or her quality of life and is pain free regardless of the x ray result, that to me is a success.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My mother. As an only child of a single mother, she is everything to me. She has showed me what hard work is and has always supported me in all of my studies and has never failed in providing me everything that has to do with improving my education.
How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
Although I'm new to the AAOS community, it has always been a part of my education since one of our teacher/doctors is also part of the AAOS community. He has always provided us with the latest articles in the journals, which we discuss in our Wednesday classes, to enhance our knowledge and see what we can improve on in our hospital and daily practices.
What advice would you give to new members of AAOS?
Get well informed of all the resources there are at AAOS. There is an immense number of articles and videos on any number of topics, it is important to know how to navigate through them to get the best of all the resources AAOS has to offer.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
