How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
The AAOS has been essential to my development as a resident and fellow. As a Delegate of the Resident Assembly, I was able to interact with other residents in different programs to better understand the common successes and challenges across the country. The Annual Meeting has provided networking opportunities that have ultimately resulted in lasting collaborations.

As a Fellowship Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I still regularly use the Yellow Journal to read for cases and get up to date on the most current literature related to hand and shoulder surgery. The AAOS virtual board review course was essential to guiding my review for Part 1 of the ABOS while on a busy trauma rotation. I also regularly used ResStudy throughout my residency to prepare for the OITE. The Video Theater has been a nice resource for case preparation.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
One of my mentors once told me that I shouldn’t worry about filling my waiting room chairs if the chairs at my kitchen table are empty. In a specialty where we are taught to put our heads down and work hard, we sometimes forget to cherish and cultivate the relationships that mean most to us. I have luckily had mentors who have taught me to never lose sight of the important things in life, but it’s a challenge we all face.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Putting my phone on “do not disturb,” putting on some music, and plugging away!

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Now that I have an 8-month-old, I have had to completely shift my schedule to get things done before he wakes up and after he goes to sleep. While not entirely successful, I have been trying to get my workouts in during the early morning so I have more time to be with my son and wife at night.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Road cycling, video editing, hiking, and spending time with my wife, Amanda, and son, Rowan.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
My father was born in England and I’m currently in the process of applying for my dual UK citizenship.
