As an Emeritus Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I use the CME and Annual Meeting information primarily with respect to AAOS resources. And I like to go to the Annual Meeting to connect with friends.

If you were mentoring a new member, what important advice would you give them as they progress in their career?
If I was mentoring a new member I would advise them to create themself. Whether you do a fellowship or not (I did not) you can create your own field of specialty.

What aspect of retirement surprised you the most?
I was most surprised in retirement how rigid it is to ride the fence of retirement. With EHR, credentialing, and hospital or group practice, it’s not really practical to ease out of our specialty which I believe is unfortunate.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
My favorite hobbies that keep me busy in Alaska are commercial fishing, hunting, and my love for Alaska politics.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
Fun fact I try to suppress - I once lit my kitchen into a blazing wall of fire when I was 15 while my Dad was State Attorney General. The fire department came, the house didn’t burn down, and I still managed to go camping (after a most unsuccessful trial fueling of my camping stove in my kitchen) with my friend Bruce. Dad thought it was a good night for me to get out of town.
