How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
I discovered JAAOS articles as a medical student while studying on my orthopedic audition rotations, providing additional learning opportunities early on. During my residency, we would regularly include JAAOS review articles during our literature reviews and analyze surgical techniques from the OVT. As I have transitioned through my fellowship, I will apply the Clinical Practice Guidelines to my treatment algorithms.
As a Candidate Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
Throughout my fellowship, I utilized the JAAOS articles and Clinical Practice Guideline resources the most. The JAAOS articles include thorough reviews of topics used in my research, current concepts review, and providing resident education through various lectures.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
“Take pride in the little things.” This was emphasized by my father countless times, as it would typically be geared toward improving a certain skill set for sports performance. I applied the thought process in school and medicine, finding the importance of minor details and how they can lead to larger outcomes.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I will get up early in the morning before work to tackle my to-do list. There are always fewer distractions, and I can focus more clearly rather than after a long workday. This has been a staple of my routine for working out and preparing for cases. When I can finish tasks early in the morning, I feel that I can enjoy more dedicated family time after work.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I have been working on reading more non-medical books for my own personal development. My goal has been to cut down on screen time to foster a better investment of my time into myself.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I spend most of my free time with my wife, 2 daughters, and 2 dogs, being outdoors and exploring the city. I enjoy weight training, going to breweries, and watching mostly sports.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I have competed in multiple World Wiffleball Championship tournaments.
