Barkha Naren Chhabra, MD
Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon
OrthoHouston, Greater Houston, Texas
How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
AAOS has always been the go-to source for exposure to Orthopaedic excellence. I began attending Academy meetings in medical school. At the time, AAOS gave me a chance to be inspired by leaders in the field. Now, I can frequent the site for clinical guidelines and access to JAAOS.
As a Candidate Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I use the AAOS platform regularly for the online learning resources. I like to keep up to date on CME with SAEs and also enjoy the online videos. In addition to the online learning platform, I also use the membership directory to contact colleagues, and social media handles to follow for real-time updates.
What's the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
It is hard to only choose one piece of advice as I love getting words of wisdom from those around me. My father always told us, “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.” He has been right! Whether it is in the OR or in the clinic, I truly feel privileged to be an Orthopaedic surgeon and my daily work gives me tremendous satisfaction and joy.
What's your go-to productivity trick?
Each day, I look at my running to-do list and prioritize the top items on the agenda for the day. I try to stay focused on one task at a time. In the future, I’m really interested to see how I can use AI for more productivity tools.
What's one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Being fully present during family time.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Anything with my daughter: reading, dancing, swimming, traveling. I also love cooking for others, especially, brunch or homemade baked goods.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I have traveled to over 40 distinct countries, and I lived in India for a year after college. I still say it was the best year of my life.
