How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has been instrumental in my professional development by providing a wealth of educational resources and opportunities for collaboration. The AAOS Annual Meeting has been particularly valuable, offering a platform to stay abreast of the latest advancements in orthopaedic surgery and to connect with peers and mentors in the field. Additionally, the Journal of the AAOS (JAAOS) has enhanced my clinical decision-making and patient care through its commitment to evidence-based practice.

As a Candidate Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I have found Clinical Practice Guidelines and the Orthopaedic Video Theater to be invaluable resources. The Clinical Practice Guidelines offer evidence-based recommendations that assist me in making informed decisions for my patients, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care. The Orthopaedic Video Theater provides comprehensive visual demonstrations of surgical techniques, enhancing my understanding and proficiency in various procedures. Additionally, I frequently refer my patients to OrthoInfo, which presents reliable and easily understandable information about their conditions, helping with patient education and engagement.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
From a young age, my dad always told me to "reach for the stars." As a surgeon himself, he instilled in me and my sister the passion and drive to become surgeons. His encouragement made me feel that anything was possible, and I only hope to pass that same mindset on to my own children.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I start each day by waking up early to exercise and clear my head, which helps me stay focused and energized. I also rely heavily on post-it notes

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I am currently striving to make it a daily habit to spend time outdoors with my family, regardless of the weather—rain, snow, or shine. As Minnesotans say, there is no bad weather!

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy running and playing tennis. I also have a budding cake decorating business, I've made a tradition of making elaborate cakes for my kids' birthdays. I love trying new restaurants and exploring different cuisines. Most importantly, I cherish spending time with my family—whether it's relaxing together or chasing down my outdoor cat, who always seems to have her own agenda!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
When I was younger, I volunteered at a cheetah rehabilitation center in Namibia. It was an incredible experience working up close with these amazing animals and learning about conservation efforts to protect them.
