How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
Starting out in orthopedics after graduating from PA school, I spent a lot of time reading through the Essentials of Musculoskeletal Care textbook as well as reading the monthly JAAOS articles. Over the past 6 years, I have continued to read the JAAOS articles and have also frequently utilized the Clinical Practice Guidelines, webinars, and other CME resources. I have also listened to the podcast material.

As an Allied member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
The OrthoInfo patient handouts are very useful. I distribute the exercise packets to patients on a daily basis. I also utilize JAAOS to stay up to date. Additionally, the CME resources help me obtain CME credits.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
One of my preceptors during PA school said to me, "Keep reading. The moment you think you know everything you should stop practicing medicine."

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Start early. On the weekends I am more productive when I get up early. Even during the work week, if I hit the snooze button then I end up having to rush and always feel behind for the rest of the day. Starting early provides an opportunity for religious meditation which prepares me to have a good attitude and therefore a more successful and productive day.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Trying to work out on a more regular basis.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Traveling, reading, camping, hiking, mountain biking, snow skiing, spending time with family and friends

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
My undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree was titled International Rescue and Relief. My background and training in this program allowed me the privilege of providing medical treatment in countries such as Zambia, Nicaragua, and later El Salvador.

During the 6 months in Zambia, my experience solidified my passion for pursuing a career in medicine as a PA. Additionally, I find that this education has made me more well-rounded and prepared to help in the community. For example, I have had the opportunity to respond to two hurricane disasters (Sandy in 2012 and Ian in 2022) to help with the relief and early recovery efforts.
