Overall Mission/Purpose
Oversee and advise regarding AAOS and individual orthopaedic surgeon ethics, professionalism and conflict of interest issues, including relationships with industry. Oversee the AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program and provide guidance to the Fellowship regarding medical ethics, professionalism and conflict of interest issues.
Charges

Align all activities to support execution and achievement of the mission, vision, goals, strategic objectives and metrics of the Strategic Plan and conduct all business in accordance with the Core Values as adopted by the Board of Directors.

Oversee the Principles of Medical Ethics and Professionalism in Orthopaedic Surgery and Code of Medical Ethics and Professionalism for Orthopaedic Surgeons and recommend revisions as necessary to the Board of Directors, pursuant to Article XIX of the Association Bylaws and Article XIV of the Academy Bylaws.

Review and update existing and develop new Opinions on Ethics and Professionalism, Position Statements or Information Statements regarding medical ethics, professionalism or conflict of interest issues for consideration by the Board of Directors.

Develop and update educational resources regarding medical ethics, professionalism or conflict of interest issues for members of the Fellowship and specifically for orthopaedic residents.

Develop recommendations on relationships between AAOS and orthopaedic and other companies and recommend changes in AAOS policies regarding conflicts of interest for members of AAOS governance units as warranted.

Review proposed or proposed revisions to AAOS Standards of Professionalism and make recommendations to the Board of Directors and the Bylaws/Standards of Professionalism Oversight Committee.

Oversee and develop recommendations regarding the AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program.

Review and respond to medical ethical and professionalism issues or the management of conflict of interest issues posed by the Board of Directors, other governance units or individual Fellows.
- Monitor the medical ethics, professionalism and conflict of interest activities and policies of other medical associations, including the American Medical Association and its Council of Ethical and Judicial Affairs and the American College of Surgeons.
