Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest

In order to promote transparency and confidence in the educational programs, publications and in the decisions by all Governance Groups of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (collectively referred to as "AAOS"), the AAOS Board of Directors adopted a comprehensive AAOS Mandatory Disclosure Policy.

AAOS policy requires all members involved in organizational governance, CPG and AUC development, CME faculty or authors of enduring materials, editors-in-chief and editorial boards to complete the AAOS mandatory disclosure information.

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) considers relationships of only the person involved in the CME activity. In order for CME providers like AAOS to maintain accreditation, the ACCME requires any persons in a position of control over educational content or activity disclose relevant financial relationships, including:

  • Financial relationships in any amount,
  • Within the 24 months prior to the educational activity,
  • With an ACCME-defined commercial interest (A commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on patients), and
  • That relate to the content of the educational activity.

Convey®

Effective October 2024, AAOS will begin using Convey®, a global disclosure repository provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The previous AAOS Orthopaedic Disclosure Program will be sunset.

To learn more about Convey®, view the Convey FAQ.

AAOS will continue with its requirements to update disclosure semiannually (April and October). Individuals required to disclose for AAOS purposes will receive an invitation link to submit disclosure via the Convey® system.

An AAMC login will be required. If you do not already have an AAMC login, you may create your login at Create AAMC Account.
