Balloting

Each year, AAOS invites Active Fellow and Emeritus Members to cast ballots for the AAOS Nominating Committee and to vote on AAOS resolutions and bylaws amendments.

The Nominating Committee identifies and recommends individuals for election to certain AAOS leadership volunteer positions.

Online Voting Process

Our online voting process is designed to be quick, secure, and confidential. You will be able to vote both for nominees to serve on the AAOS Nominating Committee and on the proposed resolutions and bylaws amendments at the same time.

If you are an AAOS Active, Inactive, or Emeritus Fellow and have an email address on file with AAOS, you have received a personalized email from us. The email includes a link to your ballot. Ballots must be submitted by Sunday, May 12, 2024.

If you are eligible to vote and have not received your ballot, please contact governance@aaos.org.

On the Ballot

The online ballot has information on each of the Fellows nominated to serve on the Nominating Committee, as well as information on the eight (8) new AAOS Resolution, two (2) AAOS Resolutions that are up for their five-year review and two (2) proposed Bylaws Amendments. The ballot also contains the recommendations of the Board of Councilors, Board of Specialty Societies, AAOS Board of Directors, and AAOS Resolutions and Bylaws Committees.

Adoption & Election Rules

The adoption of resolutions and bylaws amendment requires at least 5% of the total Fellowship to cast ballots.

  • Resolution adoption: At least 51% percent of those voting must vote in favor of a resolution for adoption.
  • Bylaws amendment adoption: Two thirds of those voting must vote in favor of a bylaws amendment for adoption.

A valid election for the Nominating Committee does not require a minimum number or percentage of Fellows to cast ballots. The five individuals receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to the Nominating Committee, provided no more than two are in practice in the same state.

As a Fellow, you help shape the future direction and work of the AAOS through your votes on resolutions and bylaws amendments and your selections for members of the AAOS Nominating Committee. Take this opportunity to vote online and be an involved member of the AAOS.

If you have questions about casting your ballot, please contact governance@aaos.org.
