Share Your Knowledge at the AAOS 2018 Annual Meeting
The AAOS Central Program Committee is issuing a call for abstracts on a wide variety of orthopaedic-related topics. AAOS members, residents, and all orthopaedic professionals are invited to submit abstracts for the AAOS 2018 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, to be held March 6-10. Nowhere else will your discoveries reach such a wide-ranging orthopaedic audience.

Congratulations to the 2017 Poster Award Winners
This year, 575 posters were displayed at the Annual Meeting. The best poster in each of 11 categories was chosen prior to the Annual Meeting by the relevant program subcommittee. William J. Maloney, MD, Takes the Helm

New AAOS PSAs Tackle Opioid Misuse, Childhood Obesity
During the AAOS Annual Meeting, the Academy unveiled its two new 2017 public service announcement (PSA) campaigns on prescription safety and the dangers of opioid misuse, and the vital role families play in combatting childhood obesity by promoting exercise and bone health in children. The PSAs were distributed to more than 5,000 media, including television and radio stations, print publications, and outdoor billboard/sign companies.

who for three decades has made exemplary professional contributions to the advancement of orthopaedic surgery, was recognized during the AAOS Annual Meeting as the 2017 recipient of the William W. Tipton Jr, MD, Leadership Award. William J. Robb III, MD, receives the 2017 William W. Tipton Jr, MD, Leadership Award from outgoing AAOS President Gerald R. Williams Jr, MD. Dr. Robb's practice is focused on reconstructive knee surgery at the Illinois Bone & Joint Institute.

The Humanitarian Award is presented each year to a member of the Academy who has distinguished himself or herself through outstanding musculoskeletal-related humanitarian activities in the United States or abroad. Orthopaedics in India: Q&A with Dr. Ram Prabhoo
Dr. Ram Prabhoo, president of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA), recently shared his insights about the practice of orthopaedics in India. According to Dr. Prabhoo, although Indian orthopaedists face challenges in providing musculoskeletal care to their country's large population, they also have more access than ever before to high-quality musculoskeletal education, including AAOS programs conducted in India.

“A Gifted Leader”: AAOS CEO Karen L. Hackett Retires
A few weeks before her retirement, Karen L. Hackett, FACHE, CAE, had but one request for how AAOS Now would describe her nearly 14-year tenure as chief executive officer (CEO) of the AAOS: “Focus on the leadership of the Academy—the volunteers and the staff,” she entreated. “Anything 'I have done' has been accomplished with them.” One of the milestones of Ms. Hackett's tenure as CEO was the groundbreaking for the new AAOS headquarters in 2013.

Health Care to Be “Most Dynamic Growth Industry Ever”
