Medical Students' Program Debuts at Annual Meeting
Each year, the AAOS Annual Meeting provides outstanding learning opportunities for orthopaedic professionals at every stage of their careers. At the 2016 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla., AAOS introduced a new educational program focused specifically on medical students.

Excellence in Orthopaedic Reporting Honored
One of my favorite Academy events is the Media Orthopaedic Reporting Excellence (MORE) Awards, held during the annual National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference (NOLC) in Washington D.C. The MORE Awards honor writers and producers who accurately report on musculoskeletal breakthroughs, treatments, common conditions, safety concerns, and injury prevention efforts.

A Spine Surgeon's Perspective
Recently, I interviewed the 2015–2016 president of the North American Spine Society (NASS), Dr. Bono is associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at Harvard Medical School and chief of orthopaedic spine surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. As a spine surgeon myself, I was curious about his perspective on several issues facing orthopaedics. We began by discussing his background. I was raised in Brooklyn and Staten Island. My mother was a first-generation immigrant.

Building Bridges: AAOS Supports Advocacy in Brazil
Facing serious challenges, including the transfer of physician certification from medical societies to the Ministry of Health, the Brazilian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (Sociedade Brasileira de Ortopedia e Traumatologia, or SBOT) recently reorganized its Public Health Policy Commission. In addition, a rapidly aging population is creating shifting healthcare needs for the Brazilian community.

AJRR, AOA, and AAHKS Announce New Collaboration
Under this new collaboration, the three organizations will cooperate in offering the AJRR Orthopaedic Quality Resource Center for eligible professionals (EPs) and group practices interested in submitting Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) measures. The new collaboration with the AOA and AAHKS will result in additional measures to be included in the AJRR Orthopaedic Quality Center platform in 2016.
