ICLs in the Spotlight

"The selection of Instructional Course Lectures (ICLs) for the 2016 Annual Meeting is expansive, with offerings in a variety of formats," said chair of the Central Instructional Courses Committee. The meeting in Orlando, Florida, will feature 244 ICLs, ranging in length from 1 hour to 3 hours. The number of Case Presentation format courses has increased to 32, by popular demand.

AAOS Bids Colombia "¡Bienvenidos!"

The Academy will honor Colombia as the Guest Nation at the 2016 AAOS Annual Meeting, March 1–5, in Orlando, Fla., at the Orange County Convention Center. The orthopaedists of the Republic of Colombia, as it is officially known, are represented by the Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugía Ortopédica y Traumatología (SCCOT). Founded in 1946, SCCOT contributes to the responsible development of the medical specialty and the ethical application of medical practice in Colombia.

AAOS Expands Quality Activities, Updates Position Statements

At their December 2015 meeting, the Board of Directors of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) took several actions that reinforce the AAOS commitment to patient safety, quality care, and advocacy. The Board approved a new clinical practice guideline (CPG) on Surgical Management of Osteoarthritis of the Knee (see "Evidence Bolsters Recommendations in New CPG."

Distracted Walking: A Serious Issue for All

Thanks to a significant amount of research and promotion, the AAOS has increased Americans' awareness that distracted driving is causing crashes, injuries, and even deaths. It's an important public safety issue that the AAOS has championed for more than 5 years. In 2015, the Academy expanded its injury prevention efforts to include distracted walking—pedestrians focused on their cell phones, bopping to the music in their ear buds, or otherwise not paying attention to their surroundings.
