Guest Nation China, AAOS Share “Growing Friendship”
At the 2015 AAOS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, China will be honored as the Guest Nation. The People’s Republic of China, as it is officially known, is the world’s most populous country, with more than 1.3 billion people. Similarly, the Chinese Orthopaedic Association (COA), is the world’s largest orthopaedic association, with more than 30,000 members. But that figure is dwarfed by the total number of orthopaedic surgeons in China—130,000.

Facing the Workforce Challenge in Canada
Canada faces an unprecedented oversupply of orthopaedic surgery graduates, many of whom can only find precarious work as locum tenens or are forced to look for work offshore. Many factors contribute to the situation. Chief among them, though, are austerity measures initiated by provincial health ministries that have effectively cancelled a projected expansion of human health resources in general and orthopaedic resources in particular.
