A Nation in Motion: Bravo!
As most AAOS fellows now know, the Academy has a national public awareness initiative, A Nation in Motion®, which was launched last year. We have spent some time in this column asking you for help to make this campaign a success, and this time, we would like simply to offer a big, hearty “Thank you!” We are so grateful to our campaign’s industry sponsors; to the AAOS fellows who have offered their stories; and to the patients who have shared their experiences.

An Orthopaedist’s Quest for Self-Expression
“With even my best surgical work, my patients are eventually going to grow old and pass away. But art is more permanent,” said orthopaedic surgeon and artist Nitin Banwar, MD, describing what motivates him to draw, create collages, and pursue other art forms. “I want to leave a unique signature that communicates to the world that there was someone named Nitin Banwar.” Dr. Banwar, medical director of the Joint Replacement Center at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva, N.Y.

The AAOS in Vietnam: A Personal Remembrance
I grew up in Hanoi, the quiet capital of Vietnam, full of milk flowers in the fall and hardworking people all year round. Now I am an orthopaedic resident at the University of Iowa. When Stuart L. Weinstein, MD, invited me to join him as an interpreter on his annual trip to Vietnam with the AAOS-VOA (Vietnamese Orthopaedic Association) Spinal Deformity program, I realized how much I missed my home. I had been back only three times since I left to study in the United States.
