Orthopaedic residency programs across the country use many of the same educational tools—such as cadaver labs, evaluations, and feedback—to teach residents. Despite the widespread use and importance of these methods, residency programs rarely communicate with each other. Without this dialogue, it is difficult for residencies to obtain comparative feedback or identify best education practices.

Anna Salt Troise Named Chief Education Strategist

The Academy recently welcomed Anna Salt Troise as the new chief education strategist. As a member of the AAOS executive team, Ms. Troise will direct all the Academy's education and peer-reviewed publishing activities, as well as its newly implemented strategy. "Anna is a proven business leader, manager, and innovative thinker with extensive experience in business and knowledge of the orthopaedic space," said AAOS CEO Thomas Arend Jr., Esq., CAE.

A New Take on Leadership in Orthopaedic Surgery

Which is Correct: OrthopEdics or OrthopAEdics?

After many years of debate, the question of which term, orthopEdics or orthopAEdics, is correct remains unanswered. The well-known English term OrthopAEdics, derived from the French term "Orthopédie," originated in 1741 by Nikolas Andry. It refers to the prevention of deformities in children, based on the Greek words "ορθός/orthos" (straight) and "paidion" or "paedion" (child). ΟrthopEdics (ΟρθοπEδική in Greek) is more inclusive of all age groups.
