American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) staff will be on hand at the 2016 AAOS Annual Meeting to answer questions regarding the hip and knee arthroplasty registry, as well as to demonstrate the new AJRR Level III patient-reported outcome (PRO) dashboard system. The dashboard system is designed to collect electronic health records (EHRs) directly from hospitals or through an EHR vendor, and sort that data into charts, graphs, and reports to help visualize the information.

Fortunately, I have had two capable wingmen— first vice-president; and second vice-president—at my side. The AAOS is now well-settled in its new headquarters building in Rosemont, Ill.

AAOS Resident Assembly Update

Help Build a Safe and Accessible Playground in Orlando

Every day, we orthopaedic surgeons help restore our patients' mobility. We encourage our patients—especially children—to build strong bones for life with exercise and physical activity. For the past 16 years, the Academy has demonstrated our commitment to bone and joint health by donating a Safe and Accessible Playground to the host cities of our Annual Meetings. Safer play structures help prevent children from getting severely injured on the playground.

New LFP Class Selected

Selected by the Leadership Development Committee, the Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) class of 2016-2017 consists of 10 new LFP Fellows. Established in December 2001, the LFP is a 1-year program that identifies future leaders and prepares them to assume roles of responsibility within AAOS. The LFP combines didactic leadership training with an ongoing mentoring program that matches the participants with an established leader within the orthopaedic community.

Over a span of 8 weeks in the fall of 2015, AAOS held six programs on four different continents, reaching an estimated 2,300 international surgeons. The AAOS International Committee, chaired by William B. Stetson, MD, selected the programs from a competitive set of proposals submitted by international orthopaedic societies.
