AAOS to Participate in Guidelines International Network Conference
This fall, when the Guidelines International Network (G-I-N) holds its annual meeting, AAOS will be well-represented, showcasing its exemplary evidence-based program and portfolio. The yearly event is an opportunity to network, learn, and share information with guideline developers, performance measures developers, policy makers, researchers, and others interested in evidence-based research methodology and dissemination.

Making Sense of Maintenance of Certification
Since 1986, maintenance of certification (MOC) has been a major issue for orthopaedic surgeons. It was then that the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)—the governing board for medical specialties such as orthopaedics—introduced the MOC concept. As a result, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS)—one of the ABMS member boards—began developing a unique certification pathway for orthopaedic surgeons.

Improving Shoulder Orthopaedics in Romania
In Romania, a country with a population of 20 million, surgical shoulder procedures are uncommon, with fewer than five shoulder arthroplasties performed annually. Although Romanian orthopaedic surgeons are technically skilled in other areas, they require more knowledge and experience to perform complex surgical shoulder interventions.

A Fun Way to Increase Resident Engagement
The AAOS is continually looking for ways to increase resident engagement in Academy activities. With that in mind, the AAOS Candidate, Resident, and Fellow Committee (CRFC) was tasked in 2015 with creating a trivia tournament, designed specifically for orthopaedic residents, to be held during Annual Meeting. In addition to fostering fun and competition, trivia can be educational.

Preventing Bicycle Injuries
I encounter bicyclists nearly every day on my way to and from work in downtown Philadelphia, as well as in my own neighborhood. I'm frustrated when I see riders darting in and out of traffic, not signaling before they turn, and generally creating potentially dangerous situations on crowded roads and sidewalks. However, the AAOS Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign, developed in partnership with the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, has given me a new perspective on bicycle safety.
