My Top Ten

If you read AAOS Now on a regular basis, you know that Editor-in-Chief S. Terry Canale, MD, frequently releases his “Top 10” lists—from things to do and see in Annual Meeting cities to issues he thinks are important. But Dr. Canale isn’t the only one who makes lists. I started my presidential year with a list of “What Keeps Me Awake at Night,” so it seems only fitting to end it with “My Top Ten,” my list of the changes and challenges we, as orthopaedic surgeons, face. 10.

Unique Collaboration Results in Spanish-Language Course

In 2014, the AAOS partnered with the Argentine Association of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (AAOT) to provide a unique review course opportunity to Latin American surgeons. More than 165 surgeons attended the First Intensive Course of Orthopaedics and Traumatology: Fundamental Concepts, held Dec. 7–10, in Buenos Aires. This course is an outgrowth of the Academy’s Colleague-to-Colleague (C2C) program, which uses a train-the-trainers approach to create a self-sustaining education program.

Resolve to Help Prevent Playground-related Injuries in 2015

Since 2000, the AAOS and partners have proudly sponsored Safe and Accessible Playground Builds in our Annual Meeting host cities to help minimize the number of traumatic playground-related injuries. Operation Walk USA Gives the Gift of Mobility

Each December, orthopaedic surgeons across the United States participate in a unique humanitarian effort. As part of Operation Walk USA, they literally “give” patients the gift of mobility through free joint replacement surgeries. The event has become an annual tradition and represents some of the best humanitarian efforts of the orthopaedic profession.

2015–2016 LFP Class Announced

The Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) class of 2015–2016 consists of 10 new LFP fellows who were selected by the AAOS Leadership Development Committee (LDC). Established in December 2001, the LFP is a 1-year program that identifies future leaders and prepares them to assume roles of responsibility within AAOS. The LFP combines didactic leadership training with an ongoing mentoring program that matches the participants with an established leader within the orthopaedic community.
