Where have all the “white hats” gone?
A cliché of old movies is that the good guys (such as Tom Mix, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and the Lone Ranger) all wore white hats and the bad guys wore black hats. For more than 75 years, the orthopaedic specialty has been building a reputation in medicine as the “white hats.” I like to say that orthopaedics has been the “darling” and the envy of all medicine. It is, I’m sure, because of what we do.

Three AAOS activities receive awards
Community service, EWI, and AAOS Now are honored On July 18, 2011, the AAOS was honored with the 2011 Take Pride in America® National Non-Profit Volunteer Award for its annual one-day playground build held in conjunction with the AAOS Annual Meeting. AAOS Second Vice-President, Joshua J. Jacobs, MD, accepted the award at an awards ceremony held at the White House.

AOFAS Overseas Outreach Project celebrates 10 years
Annual program provides free orthopaedic surgical care to Vietnamese in need Since 2002, volunteer surgeons from the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) have been bringing life-changing orthopaedic surgical care to underserved Vietnamese through the annual AOFAS Overseas Outreach Project to Vietnam.
