Recently Introduced Legislation Impacts Trainees
Legislation recently introduced in the 116th Congress supports the expansion of graduate medical education (GME) positions for medical training and facilitates interest-free deferment on student loans for borrowers serving in a medical or dental internship or residency program. Both initiatives would directly, positively affect orthopaedic surgery residents and are supported by AAOS, as well as other medical societies.

New Oral Certification Examinations Are Different from What You Remember
The Oral Certification Examination has always been a part of the process to become Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). In 1936, the oral examination—now known as the Part II examination—consisted of Candidates being questioned over three separate sessions with four examiners in each section.

AAOS Encourages Members to Follow the CAP and Volunteer
The AAOS leadership encourages members to apply to volunteer for one of many councils/cabinets, committees, or advisory boards. It is AAOS’ goal to have as many of its members involved in the governance structure as possible and to appoint as many individuals as possible who have not been previously involved. However, it is also equally important to match the most qualified individuals with the specific positions available.
