Looking to the Future of MOC
By now, diplomates of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) are familiar with the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process. The ABOS instituted the process—which first went into effect for diplomates whose board certification expired in 2010—in response to a directive from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), of which the ABOS is a member.

"Orange Book" Unveils New Edition
When the AAOS first published Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured in 1971, the textbook—known as the "Orange Book" for its trademark orange cover—set the standard for emergency medical services (EMS) education in the United States. Last month marked the publication of the Eleventh Edition, an updated, reimagined version of the gold-standard EMS training text, accompanied by a suite of interactive digital resources and other study tools. Acronyms 101: Sifting Through Alphabet Soup, Part 1
How many times have you tried to read a healthcare policy article (maybe one of ours) and said to yourself, "I don't understand this because of all of these acronyms and abbreviations!" (Strictly defined, acronyms are abbreviations that form pronounceable words—such as "JAMA"—and abbreviations are sets of letters pronounced as letters—such as "CMS"; for the purpose of this four-part series, we will use "acronyms" to refer to both.
