The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) and AAOS are extending their collaboration with a new grant that seeks to prioritize areas of clinical research where there is a need for increased, targeted funding to evaluate the effectiveness of various orthopaedic interventions and ultimately improve the quality of care for patients.
The $100,000 OREF/AAOS Clinical Gaps Research Grant will fund investigator-initiated research proposals focused on the broad area of addressing clinical gaps in healing, repair, or diagnostics through devices, biologics, or technology. Areas of research focus may include translational preclinical or clinical research to preferably include pilot human studies.
The new grant will consider a broader range of proposals to address topics in need of more research. The first three research grants awarded through the collaboration addressed the use of orthobiologics in knee osteoarthritis.

The grant is made possible through a strategic partnership between OREF and AAOS, and it aims to help narrow the gap between clinical research funding and prioritized clinical research needs in musculoskeletal care. Funding for this grant was made possible through the OREF/AAOS Clinical Research Gaps Fund with contributions from AAOS and individual donors.

Donors interested in earmarking funds to further enable AAOS-prioritized clinical research needs within musculoskeletal healthcare may contribute to the OREF/AAOS Clinical Research Gaps Fund.
