During the past year, AAOS has significantly enhanced its Resident Orthopaedic Core Knowledge (ROCK) platform, solidifying its position as the gold standard for online orthopaedic resident education. Attendees at the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting are invited to visit the AAOS Learning & Practice Store to experience these advancements firsthand.
Over the past year, AAOS has rolled out numerous updates to ROCK, focusing on providing program directors with robust analytics and residents with enhanced learning tools. These improvements reflect the Academy’s commitment to prioritizing member needs and creating an ever-evolving, interactive, multimedia digital resource.
Data-driven insights
Program directors have access to a comprehensive performance dashboard that provides valuable metrics on resident progress. This dashboard tracks study time spent in ROCK, the number of study sessions, and chapter completion, offering a daily view of resident engagement and progress through assigned materials. This allows for targeted interventions to address potential learning gaps.
To further support busy program directors, AAOS also offers complimentary premium support. Program directors or coordinators can contact the ROCK team to have AAOS staff build their program’s schedule, freeing up valuable time.
Faculty access to ROCK is also included with each program’s annual subscription, enabling faculty to review content and collaborate with program directors on assignments.
Optimized OITE preparation
The AAOS Orthopaedic In-Training Examination® (OITE®) is a comprehensive, computer-based examination that assesses resident knowledge and supports educational advancement. Recognizing the importance of this exam, AAOS has integrated a feature that links residents’ 2024 OITE results directly to relevant ROCK chapters, providing 24/7 access to targeted study materials. Resident performance dashboards now offer peer-group data, allowing residents to measure their progress and compare it with that of their peers.

Residency programs can maximize their educational impact with the Resident Education Bundle. This powerhouse trio combines ROCK, ResStudy, and the OITE for a comprehensive learning experience, supporting residents from foundational knowledge to exam prep.
ResStudy provides access to nearly 3,500 questions supporting residents from AAOS self-assessment exams (SAEs), including content from Orthopaedic Knowledge Update SAEs, Special Interest Exams, and OITEs. Subscribing to all three platforms offers significant cost savings.
