Town Hall to Explore AI in Orthopaedic Surgery

AAOS will host a Town Hall on Monday afternoon during the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Orthopaedic Surgery.” The event will focus on the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in orthopaedic surgery, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of AI technologies and their potential applications within orthopaedic patient care and research.

The discussion will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Introductory understanding of AI: The Town Hall will begin with a foundational overview of AI technologies and their potential impact on orthopaedic surgery.
  • AI applications and potential pitfalls: Renowned experts will delve into specific AI applications in orthopaedic surgery, while also addressing potential challenges, limitations, and ethical considerations.

The Town Hall will begin with introductory comments from AAOS President Paul Tornetta III, MD, MBA, FAAOS, highlighting the importance of AI to the future of the specialty. Leading experts from the academia and industry, including researchers from prominent institutions such as Dartmouth and Mayo Clinic, will share their insights and engage in a lively discussion.

This Town Hall will provide a unique opportunity for orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, industry professionals, and regulators to engage in a productive dialogue about the transformative potential of AI in orthopaedic surgery.
