
Designed exclusively for orthopaedic surgery trainees, the “Practice Management for Residents and Fellows-in-Training” course is a free half-day course that will provide critical knowledge to navigate your early-career challenges. Expert faculty will cover finance, practice management, legal considerations, career strategy, and job selection—all essential for a smooth transition from training to practice. The event will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Room 6A.
Attendees will gain key insights from faculty, including:
- Billing and coding fundamentals: Learn the basics of Current Procedural Terminology codes, reimbursement models, and common coding pitfalls.
- Medical-legal issues: Understand malpractice risks, documentation best practices, and how to protect yourself from liability.
- Choosing your first job: Explore compensation models, practice settings (private, hospital, academic), and key negotiation strategies.
- Personal finance for physicians: Gain insights on managing debt, investing early, and long-term financial planning, including financial strategies for new physicians.
- The Resident Career Center: Learn how to leverage AAOS’ Career Center, including curriculum vitae consultations, networking opportunities, and job listings.
- Contract negotiation and career growth: Know what to look for in a job offer, when to negotiate, and how to identify long-term opportunities.
- Practical strategies for early-career success: Establish a differentiated clinical niche, build relationships with mentors, and balance career aspirations with personal goals.
