Michael J. Leddy III, MD, FAAOS, and Adolph J. Yates Jr, MD, FAAOS, were named chairs of the AAOS Board of Councilors (BOC) and Board of Specialty Societies (BOS), respectively. They assumed their positions for the 2025-2026 term following the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting.
BOC chair
Dr. Leddy is an expert in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and complex shoulder reconstruction. He has been an active leader within AAOS, serving as a member of the AAOS Board of Directors since 2023. His dedication to advancing the field of orthopaedics has led to appointments on key AAOS committees, including the Political Action Committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (OrthoPAC) Executive Committee, Education Council, Research and Quality Committee, and the Coding, Coverage, and Reimbursement Committee.
Dr. Leddy’s leadership extends to the AAOS BOC, where he served as representative for Louisiana and was then elected to serve as chair-elect and secretary before taking on the role of chair. His expertise and commitment to advancing orthopaedic care have been instrumental in shaping policy, education, and advocacy efforts within the organization.
Dr. Leddy is senior partner of Mid State Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. His expertise has been sought after as a team physician for professional, collegiate, and high school athletic programs, where he has provided expert care for athletes at all levels.
BOS chair
Dr. Yates will bring his unparalleled expertise in orthopaedic surgery and healthcare quality improvement to the BOS. Dr. Yates currently serves as professor and vice chair for quality within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he is chief of orthopaedics at UPMC Shadyside, specializing in adult reconstruction. His distinguished career includes extensive academic and clinical achievements, as well as a strong focus on advancing evidence-based care. Dr. Yates has addressed healthcare policy on numerous occasions, advocating on Capitol Hill for value-based medicine that prioritizes patient care.
Before assuming his role as chair, Dr. Yates played an integral role in the BOS, supporting leaders of musculoskeletal societies to address issues of mutual concern, such as advocacy, continuing medical education, research, and residency and fellowship issues. An accomplished leader, Dr. Yates was awarded the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons’ President’s Award and served as their American Medical Association Relative Value Scale Update Committee representative. His research has focused on restoring cartilage and creating prevention guidelines for venous thromboembolism and knee osteoarthritis surgical treatments, among others.
