Egypt Honored as Guest Nation at the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting

AAOS will welcome Egypt as the Guest Nation at the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, March 10-14, with the Egyptian Orthopaedic Association (EOA) representing the country.

“EOA is proud to be honored as the Guest Nation at the AAOS Annual Meeting. Our two societies have enjoyed a long history of collaboration, and we look forward to taking further steps that will create new educational and research opportunities for our members” said EOA President Abdel-Hakim A. Massoud, MD.

Egypt was unified around 3100 BCE and remained a dominant force in both economic and cultural spheres across North Africa. As a crossroads between northeast Africa and the Middle East, it was deeply shaped by interactions with numerous other cultures and nations.

The EOA, founded in 1948, is one of the oldest organizations dedicated to advancing orthopaedics in Egypt and the Middle East. With 8,000 active members, a third of whom come from neighboring countries and Europe, the EOA serves as a vital hub for orthopaedic professionals.

The EOA brings together orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and healthcare experts to exchange knowledge, discuss the latest developments, and collaborate on improving musculoskeletal health. Since its inception, the EOA has hosted an annual conference, as well as more specialized annual conferences focusing on deformities and trauma. The association also works closely with other orthopaedic societies, including the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT), Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT), International Federation of Paediatric Orthopaedic Societies (IFPOS), Association for the Study and Application of the Methods of Ilizarov (ASAMI), and Middle East Pediatric Orthopaedic Society (MEPOS), enabling regional surgeons to attend these collaborative conferences.

Additionally, the EOA has played a key role in the establishment of subspecialty societies within Egypt, partnering with them to offer educational courses and training programs. Each year, EOA also hosts a specialty day during its annual congress to further promote learning and professional development.

“We are deeply honored to be the invited country at the AAOS Annual Meeting,” said EOA Past President Gamal Hosny, MD. “The opportunity to present Egypt’s scientific expertise at the Academy is a significant achievement for the EOA.”

AAOS International Committee Chair Carlos Higuera Rueda, MD, FAAOS, shared his enthusiasm for Egypt as Guest Nation: “AAOS is excited to welcome orthopaedists from Egypt and honor their country as the Guest Nation at our Annual Meeting in San Diego. We look forward to sharing insights and practices to enhance our collaborative exchange.”
