AAOS has introduced its new 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, aimed at shaping the future of musculoskeletal health. In a recent podcast episode hosted by Valerae O. Lewis, MD, FAAOS, chair of the AAOS Membership Council, key members of the AAOS Board of Directors, including President Paul Tornetta III, MD, PhD, FAAOS; First Vice President Annunziato Amendola, MD, FAAOS; and Board of Councilors Chair Joel Mayerson, MD, FAAOS, FAOA, discussed the plan’s development and long-term goals.
The plan focuses on enhancing collaboration, innovation, and education within the orthopaedic community. Core elements include increasing learning opportunities for members, fostering a collaborative culture, and integrating value-based care and new technologies to improve patient outcomes. The strategic shift also addresses keeping up with an evolving healthcare landscape, supporting career transitions, and empowering surgeons to lead multidisciplinary teams.
In the episode, AAOS leaders emphasize the importance of member engagement with the plan, urging physicians and other stakeholders to recognize the long-term benefits for both their practices and the broader musculoskeletal community. In addition, they explain that the plan outlines a vision for the future of orthopaedics, aiming for significant advancements by 2028.
