Bridging Language Gaps: Spanish-Language Sessions Return to AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting

In a significant stride toward inclusivity, the Academy is set to host a series of sessions held in Spanish this week during the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting. Driven by a commitment to cater to the diverse linguistic needs of the orthopaedic community, these sessions will provide invaluable opportunities for attendees who speak Spanish to delve into cutting-edge orthopaedic advancements without the need for a paid ticket.

Jose A. Taveras, MD, FAAOS, member of the AAOS International and Annual Meeting Committees and an esteemed orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction in the Dominican Republic, serves as a key advocate for the Spanish sessions. In a video testimonial, Dr. Taveras expressed the importance of providing content in Spanish, stating, “It’s going to stimulate more participation from that large group of participants from Hispanic and Spanish-speaking countries who feel that there’s a limitation in the knowledge that they can acquire because of language.”

Dr. Taveras highlighted the diverse range of topics, including hip fractures, hip replacement, shoulder issues, and other sports-related themes. The international and U.S.–based speakers collaborating in these sessions promise a rich exchange of information and insights.

Dr. Taveras emphasized the importance of participation, encouraging attendees to make the most of these sessions. “We are catering to these orthopaedic surgeons.

The topics that will be given are top-notch, interesting, up-to-date, evidence-based information and in their language,” he added.

For the convenience of international attendees, Dr. Taveras provided valuable advice on how to navigate and experience the meeting. He recommends attendees take advantage of the Annual Meeting Mobile App as a useful tool for navigating the array of activities offered at the meeting.
