AAOS Welcomes Chile as This Year’s Guest Nation

AAOS welcomes Chile as the Guest Nation at the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, with the Sociedad Chilena de Ortopedia y Traumatología (SCHOT) representing the country. The Guest Nation program was created to foster recognition of the contributions to orthopaedics from surgeons around the globe.

“It is a great honor to be the invited country for the AAOS Annual Meeting and to have the opportunity to participate in the scientific program,” said SCHOT President Alvaro Silva, MD.

Founded in 1949, SCHOT’s main mission is to promote orthopaedic development through its continuing education programs. SCHOT currently has about 1,100 members who actively participate in instructional courses; conferences; research; scholarships abroad; and publication of their work in the most prestigious international scientific journals, as well as the official journal of SCHOT, the Chilean Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, published in both English and Spanish.

The SCHOT National Congress is held annually and welcomes about 1,400 attendees \from all over the country for three days of scientific exchange. For the past 10 years, AAOS has held a combined pre-congress the day before the SCHOT meeting.

“SCHOT has been bringing members of the Academy to participate in our pre-congress course for several years. We have also received AAOS scholarships, and we believe that in the future, this academic relationship will continue to be mutually beneficial for both societies.” said Dr. Silva.

Guest Nation events
Throughout the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting, various Guest Nation events will take place, including:

• Guest Nation Symposium, Symposium Q: “New Perspectives in Musculoskeletal Infections” will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday in South, Esplanade Ballroom 153. During this symposium, musculoskeletal infections will be thoroughly discussed, including new trends in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal and periprosthetic infections of both the upper and lower extremities.
• Guest Nation posters: Ten scientific posters from Chilean authors will be on display in OrthoLive.
• Guest Nation poster presentation: Chilean moderators will guide attendees through an exciting discussion of the Guest Nation posters (1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in OrthoLive).
• Your Academy 2024 event: SCHOT will receive special recognition during the Your Academy marquee event (9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in South, Esplanade Ballroom 155).
• Guest Nation exhibit: Attendees can view a showcase of orthopaedics in Chile and speak with representatives from SCHOT, located in OrthoLive.
