New Orthopaedic Knowledge Update (OKU 12) available in print and online editions

ROSEMONT, Ill. (March 27, 2017) — The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has released the 12th edition of OKU (Orthopaedic Knowledge Update), the authoritative and indispensable guide on general and specialty orthopaedics that also is a key tool in preparing for Board certification and recertification.

First published in 1984, the completely new OKU 12 (not a revision of OKU 11) is available in print, eBook or flash drive formats. The new edition features the most up-to-date research and clinical information from the past three years.

“OKU12 provides reviews and targeted updates across the field of orthopaedics with chapters written by respected experts in the field,” said OKU 12 Editor Jonathan Grauer, MD. “This is an indispensable resource for anyone looking to stay current in the field.”

The book is organized in six sections, and covers all the general content areas within orthopaedics. The format is designed to conveniently provide answers and clinical information to practicing orthopaedists, and to serve as an efficient source for first-time certification or Maintenance of Certification (MOC) preparation.

The MOC guidelines, developed by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, requires 120 credits of orthopaedic-related Continuing Medical Education (CME) including 20 credits from Scored and Recorded Self-Assessment Examinations (SAE), during the first three years of their 10-year MOC cycle. An additional 120 CME/20 SAE credits are required before they apply for a recertification examination. The OKU, paired with the Scored and Recorded OKU 12 SAE, qualifies for up to 70 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits.TM Twenty of those credits can be applied to the Scored and Recorded SAE requirement for MOC.

Customers can choose from the hard copy book, eBook, or the book and eBook package, and all can be purchased with the online SAE. Also available for purchase are the eight individual specialty volumes (with no overlap with the general OKU 12), as well as OKU 1-12 (available in an eBook edition or on a USB drive) providing all of the OKU content from the editions 1 through 12.

All can be purchased at aaos.org/OKU, or by calling 1.800.626.6726.
