Business Meetings and Your Academy 2018 Headline Today’s Activities

The AAOS cordially invites attendees to join leadership at today’s business meetings and the Your Academy 2018 event, all of which will be held in the La Nouvelle Ballroom.

The Business Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons starts at 9:15 a.m. and will feature reports from the treasurer and the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF). Reports as well as discussions related to the AAOS Resolutions and Bylaws committees will follow.

The Business Meeting of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons starts at 9:35 a.m. and will be highlighted by the following:

  • Nominations for the 2019 Nominating Committee
  • Report of the Political Action Committee of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons
  • Report of the Resolutions Committee with discussion
  • Report of the Bylaws Committee with discussion
  • Election of AAOS officer and other positions with vote
  • Recognition of retiring and new members of the board of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons

Your Academy 2018 follows the business meetings and starts at 10:15 a.m. The list of distinguished speakers and awards presentations ensures the best and brightest of the orthopaedic community will be on stage.

William J. Maloney, MD, will give the annual presidential address and then present the Kappa Delta Awards, OREF Clinical Research Award, Diversity Award, Humanitarian Award, and the William W. Tipton Jr, MD, Leadership Award.

Incoming First Vice-President Kristy L. Weber, MD, and Incoming President David A. Halsey, MD, will also address those in attendance. The event will end with AAOS Presidential Guest Speaker David Gergen, a senior political analyst with CNN and professor of public service and codirector of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Mr. Gergen, who served as an adviser in the administrations of Presidents Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, Ronald W. Reagan, and William J. Clinton, is expected to take the stage at 11:45 a.m.
