AAOS to Partner with MSTS on Independent Study Course

The Academy is collaborating with the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) to offer Musculoskeletal Oncology Review: Clinical, Radiographic and Pathologic Overview and Treatment Principles. This online, independent study course will present the essential knowledge on musculoskeletal tumors and disease required to prepare for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Part 1 examination or the Academy’s Orthopaedic In-Training Examination. Led by Carol D. Morris, MD, MS, and Adam S. Levin, MD, the course will consist of the following five modules:

  • Module 1: General Evaluation of Musculoskeletal Tumors (Lead contributor: Brian E. Brigman, MD)
  • Module 2: Benign Bone Tumors (Lead contributor: Wakenda K. Tyler, MD, MPH)
  • Module 3: Primary Malignant Tumors (Lead contributor: Carol D. Morris, MD, MS)
  • Module 4: Soft Tissue Tumors (Lead contributor: Christian M. Ogilvie, MD)
  • Module 5: Metastatic Disease (Lead contributor: Adam S. Levin, MD)

Each module will begin with a pretest—a clinical case related to the module topics followed by questions related to the case—to enable orthopaedic residents to gauge their starting knowledge. MSTS members and top experts in the field will present five to seven topics per module via recorded lectures, surgical videos, interactive learning elements, and clinical cases. Modules will conclude with a summary, critical concepts for clinical practice, knowledge check questions, and a reference library for further learning opportunities. The up-to-date information and evidence-based knowledge presented in this online course will enable residents to learn best practices and prepare for examinations. In addition, residency program directors can monitor usage and scores for each resident in the program via a dashboard to ensure each resident successfully completes the course.
