The Efficacy of the Modern Ultrasonic Bone Scalpel in a Risky and Demanding Spine Surgery
Osteotomy of the vertebral body via a posterior approach is risky and technically demanding owing to the risk of spinal cord injury caused by the limited field of view and the narrow working space. The modern ultrasonic bone scalpel is suitable for bone resection near nerves and blood vessels because it does not have a rotating mechanism like that of a high-speed drill; thus, it does not damage important soft tissues, so it is especially suitable for osteotomy of the vertebral body via a posterior approach. This video aims to show surgical techniques involving the use of a modern ultrasonic bone scalpel for risky and demanding spine surgeries and to demonstrate the efficacy of the device.
