Diagnosis and Treatment of Exertional Compartment Syndrome of the Lower Extremity
Exertional compartment syndrome of the lower extremity is a chronic condition that characteristically manifests as recurrent anterior, posterior, or lateral extremity pain on repetitive activity and physical exertion. Surgical management with compartment-specific fasciotomy is the reference standard when nonsurgical management fails. We describe the diagnosis, surgical techniques, and postoperative management of lower-extremity compartment syndrome.
