Minimally Invasive Management of Hallux Rigidus
This video demonstrates arthroscopic cheilectomy and debridement for the minimally invasive management of hallux rigidus. The background, indications, surgical technique, and limited published outcomes of this minimally invasive surgical treatment option are reviewed. The goal of this video is to highlight an up-and-coming technique in a live case presentation to educate surgeons with regard to how and when the treatment option is appropriate. Arthroscopic cheilectomy offers several advantages not possible with open surgery, with limited evidence showing arthroscopic cheilectomy decreases recovery time and improves clinical outcomes. The video summarizes various technical and conceptual aspects of the arthroscopic procedure by highlighting the treatment of a patient with grade 2 hallux rigidus.
