Rim Plating of the Tibial Plateau With an Extended Anterolateral Approach
Posterolateral fracture fragments in patients with a tibial plateau fracture are particularly difficult to reduce and adequately repair internally via an anterior or anterolateral approach. Posterior and posterolateral approaches with a fibular osteotomy offer a direct approach for the management of posterolateral fracture fragments but are associated with several limitations. This video proposes an extended anterolateral approach, which ensures a safe and effective technique for the reduction and fixation of posterolateral fracture fragments, aided by the placement of a rim plate. The video includes a case presentation with outcomes derived from one of the author's published articles; a review of preoperative and postoperative imaging studies; a discussion of the advantages of the technique; a explanation of reduction strategies, a demonstration of the placement of a rim plate; and a review of pearls, pitfalls, conclusions, and references.
