First Metatarsophalangeal Joint Arthrodesis
Symptomatic hallux valgus is one of the most common conditions managed by foot and ankle specialists. First metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis is a reliable treatment option for geriatric patients with concurrent degenerative changes. Prior studies on first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis have reported fusion rates ranging from 70% to 100%. This video presents our technique, which involves the use of a metatarsophalangeal fusion plate and a partially threaded screw for joint compression. We have achieved successful outcomes using this technique, with a revision rate of 5.6% and statistically improved visual analog pain scores.
