Split Transfer of the Tibialis Anterior to the Peroneus Tertius for an Equinovarus Foot in Children With Cerebral Palsy
Equinovarus is a well-recognized foot and ankle deformity that leads to considerable functional disability in patients with cerebral palsy. The main cause of equinovarus deformity is overactivity of the tibialis anterior and the gastrosoleus muscle complex. Split transfer of the tibialis anterior to the peroneus tertius for the management of an equinovarus foot in children with cerebral palsy may improve clinical results because of lateral extension of the moment arm and real tendon transfer rather than osseous tenodesis. This video presents our clinical results for the first 33 children with cerebral palsy who underwent split transfer of the tibialis anterior the peroneus tertius for the management of an equinovarus foot.
