Guided Growth for the Treatment of Patients With Lateral Collateral Ligament Laxity and Blount Disease
Guided growth using an eight-plate and staple epiphysiodesis has been used extensively in the management of Blount disease. Although these methods effectively correct the deformity, they usually do not address lateral collateral ligament laxity and consequent knee instability, especially in the posterolateral compartment. This video shows fluoroscopically guided percutaneous screw epiphysiodesis of the lateral portion of the tibial growth plate and the fibular growth plate. This technique adequately corrects lateral collateral ligament laxity and varus deformity using very small incisions (<1 cm).
